Interesring Facts
- Precisely, the names Argentina and Río de la Plata evoke the search for the precious treasures of the Sierra de la Plata. In 1554, the current territory of the Argentine Republic is mentioned on the maps of the Portuguese Lopo Homem as “Terra argétea” or “argentea”, from the Latin argentum which means silver.
- Avenida 9 de Julio, located in the City of Buenos Aires, capital of the country, is 110 meters wide in its central roadway, divided into 16 lanes.
- They have their own wonders, some of them are the impressive Perito Moreno Glacier, the Iguazú Falls, the Valley of the Moon, the Quebrada de Humahuaca, the Aconcagua, the Arrayanes Forest and the Cerro de los Siete Colores.
- With a maximum width of 219 km, the Río de la Plata is considered the widest in the world. This freshwater giant bathes the shores of both Argentina and Uruguay. On these coasts we can find the city of Buenos Aires on one side, while Montevideo, the capital of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, is located on the other side.
- Known in Argentina as a birome, the ballpoint pen as we know it today was invented in the 1940s by the Hungarian nationalized Argentinian journalist Ladislao José Biro, so that left-handers would stop smearing their pages.
